Get comfortable (perhaps in church sanctuary?) and together begin prayerfully reading and annotating the "Conversations" chapters (pp.3-23) that M. Beaufort records from his dialogues with Bro. Lawrence. Partner up with one other person in class (if there is an odd number, have one group of three) to read and annotate together.

R & A the "First Conversation" together and converse together in order to answer these two questions on a piece of paper (each person's own):
- How does Bro. Lawrence (BL) experience conversion, and what are its effects?
- What do you think BL means by the "resigned" soul?
- Converse with each other around what Beaufort records Bro. Lawrence aimed to accomplish in this continual practicing of God's presence. There are many things - almost as many goals as their are paragraphs.
- Choose 1 or 2 quotes from these first two "Conversations" and reflect on them in your journal. Choose the quotes that most impact you.
